About Me

Nothando Ruwona portrait

I'm a Web Design and Development student in the Digital Media and IT stream at Northern Alberta Institute of Technology (NAIT). I love that middle ground where technical coding meets great design as I am passionate about creating designs that are both functional and aesthetic. My background in Computer Science gives me a strong technical foundation and my current studies have ignited a deep interest for UX/UI best practices and photography. I thrive in collaborative environments and recently, my teammate and I won second place in Aleo's privacy award at the IWD Edmonton 2025 Hackathon, where we rapidly prototyped an AI‑integrated solution.

The Hackathon Project

2nd Place – Aleo's Privacy Award, IWD Edmonton 2025

A teammate and I teamed up to design and develop a privacy‑focused web app integrating AI. Since it was for a hackathon, we had to move really fast on the prototyping and design, but we made sure it didn't feel rushed to the user. It taught me how to stay focused and keep things intuitive even when working against the clock.

The Calculator Project

I built this minimalist calculator that calculates squares and cubes. It’s very clean and simple. I really wanted to focus on the 'feel' of the UI, so I made sure the visual feedback was instant and that things like clearing my history or fixing a typo were seamless. It’s a small tool, but I’m really proud of how smooth the interaction feels.

Tech: HTML, CSS, JavaScript

The Photography Series

A+ Grade, DMIT1533 at NAIT

In one of my classes at NAIT, I took a digital photography course that I actually ended up getting an A+ on. I got to dive deep into the technical side—playing with exposure, composition, still life and even some cool landscape stitching. It really helped sharpen my eye for detail, layout and lighting.
